How To Screenshot In League of Legends? (Easy Guide)

How to Screenshot in League of Legends

If you want to learn how to take screenshots in League of Legends, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, I’ll go over the two main ways of taking screenshots while in a LoL match. I’ll explain both of them, but before we go into details, here’s what you need to know.

There are two methods of taking screenshots in LoL. First, pressing the F12 button on your keyboard will create a screenshot and automatically place it in your League of Legends > Screenshots folder. And second, you can use the Print Screen button in combination with the Paint program to create an image.

One of these methods is faster and simpler, while the other requires a few extra steps. However, if you’ve never done this before, here’s how to take a screenshot in League of Legends!

Locating the screenshots folder

The fastest way of taking a screenshot in League of Legends is to use the F12 button.

All you need to do is press the F12 button on your keyboard while in a live match. The game will save that exact moment as a screenshot with PNG item type. Go to your Riot Games > League of Legends > Screenshots folder to find your LoL screenshots. All your screenshots will be stored there.

One problem that many people have using this method is the momentary lag. Depending on your PC, you may experience an FPS drop when you press the F12 button. This lasts only a second, so it might not be a big problem for you. However, having a total FPS drop like this while playing League of Legends is often unacceptable. And I certainly, can’t recommend you press F12 while in a team fight since you’ll most likely lose.

Fortunately, the second method of taking a screenshot in LoL doesn’t have this problem.

Saving screenshots in Paint

The Print Screen button is the default way of taking a screenshot, regardless of what you do on your PC. This also includes League of Legends, but the screenshots don’t automatically appear in specific folders. Instead, you’ll need to use the Paint program as well.

Here are instructional steps on how to screenshot in League of Legends using the Print Screen button and the Paint program:

  1. Be in a League of Legends match.
  2. Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
  3. Open Paint on your PC after the match (or use ALT + TAB while in-game).
  4. Hit CTRL + V on your keyboard to paste the screenshot in Paint.
  5. Exit and save your progress.
  6. Find the screenshot on your desktop.

As you can see, there is a bit more freedom when using this method. First of all, your screen won’t freeze for a second even if you press the Print Screen button in a team fight. And second, you can wait until the match is done to open up Paint and save your screenshot.

Of course, if you want to do more than one screenshot while playing the same match, you’ll have to go ALT + TAB and save them in Paint one by one. Keep in mind that using the Print Screen button multiple times erases all the previous screenshots if you haven’t saved them. You can only paste the last Print Screen command in Paint, so be careful.

Conclusion

My preferred way of taking a screenshot in League of Legends is the Print Screen + Paint method.

If I want to screenshot something quickly in a game to show it to my friends, hitting the Print Screen button is what I do. Later, when the game is finished, I open up Paint and paste my screenshot. Then, I just share the image.

Of course, you can also use the F12 method since it’s simpler and easier to do. But be careful about using the button in clutch moments such as team fights.

I hope this guide helped you understand how to screenshot in League of Legends!
